Confusion at Midnight – or Midmorning

Small business owners who purchase a CRM often end up spending more time that they thought they would in confusion.  They know there is going to be confusion, they were just hoping it would last a few minutes and be done.  If you have bought a robust CRM product I’m afraid I have bad news.  A robust CRM software is complex and it takes time to make sense of it.  Confusion can be rampant and it is a good idea to have some “confusion-control” tools in your desk drawer.  For instance, it is very helpful to have someone to talk through problems with.  Just the process of using your voice to discuss a confusion can have a magical dispersing effect.  Fog lifts.  Be sure to keep your trusty feet nearby and use them occasionally to leave the premises.  Distance is helpful and taking those feet for a walk gets your blood moving.  Brains love blood flow.

What I am saying is, recognize that confusion is part of the CRM learning process, in fact it is part of any learning process.  Don’t make judgments about your intelligence based on experiencing extended confusion while learning new CRM software.  It drives me bonkers to hear otherwise smart people getting all down on themselves because they take a while to learn new software.  So what if you do?  Learning is not a competition.  There is no stopwatch running.  Anyone who looks at your confusion during the learning process and makes negative comments is a person looking for a reason to be negative.  Even if that person making judgments about you is you.  Cut it out.
